I needed a light backpack, 2lb.s to replace my older backpack. The design of this pack is well thought out and executed. There are two external compartments, one on the back and on top, as well as two water bottle holders. To put gear in it you have to unbuckle the the top compartment.
I am impressed by the quality of the construction and stitching. JanSport also gives a lifetime warranty with their packs. I have one of their day packs which is well made,that's why I bought one of their backpacks. Have not had a chance to use the pack on a trip yet.

The GridFit system is built around a harness plate that's designed to adjust to your torso length and shoulder width. Once you've set up the harness plate, you simply need to find the right settings for the compression straps and hip belt to enjoy ergonomic comfort on the trail. The bag's unbound-edge AirCore shoulder straps also contribute to the ergonomic performance. AirCore straps are made of dual-density foam, with a soft, compressible layer on the interior supported with load-stabilizing EVA foam. The resulting fit is comfortable and supportive, and helps minimize pressure on your torso after the first few miles. The straps also feature breathable mesh backs for added air circulation, along with a universal S-curve fit.

Best of all, the bag offers a number of storage options, including a large top-loading main compartment, dual zippered side gear pockets, front storage pockets, and a zippered sleeping bag compartment with a drop-down divider.
